Psalm 90:12 – Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Last week on Monday a drunken driver ran over two ladies who were JMPD officers. At the time of the incident, these ladies were at work. They had left their families hoping to be home safe after their shift. Like all of us, they probably had plans for later that day. Less did they know that the next time their families will see them will be at the mortuary to identify them. They never returned back to their families alive. All the plans, dreams, wishes and surprises they had planned for their loved ones will never see the light of day. This past weekend, their families laid them to rest and their life story is over. May their souls rest in peace.

This story moved my heart deeply. It got me thinking about things that I still want to do in my life. It got me thinking about plans I have for my family. It also got me thinking about people that I so much care about that I have not created time for because ‘I am busy’. Truth is, nothing much can be done with story of the ladies that have passed on, but there is much we can learn from their story. Today, allow me to share some of the things I suggest you do before it is too late:

  • Make a list of all the people you truly value in your life. Think about the things you would like to tell them or do for them. Do it.
  • Also make a list of people you truly wish to level things up with. Maybe you parted ways with them in a manner you are not too happy with. Be brave and clear things up.
  • Make a list of things that you would truly like to do before it is too late. Put actions towards doing those things.
  • Maybe there is love in your heart that you would like to share with someone. You know the person and you have just been postponing for one reason or the other. Pick up your phone and tell them what is in your heart.
  • Maybe there is song or a book that you so wish to write, but you keep pushing it away. Stop wasting time, start writing and stop making excuses.

Friend, we don’t know when our time will come for us to leave this world. One thing I know is that our days are numbered. Sadly, we don’t know the exact time for us to be called up yonder. Whilst we are here, out of a heart full of a sense of urgency to live, not fear, let us do what we need to do now. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, all we have is today. Don’t go with so much still undone. I am not suggesting that you become irresponsible, but trust me, you have this one life, live it. Stop making excuses about why things shouldn’t be done. You can and you should do what fills your heart. Time will never be right, but, trust me on this one, this is the right time.

May God teach you to number your days and give you wisdom and courage to make all your remaining days count. You have the power in you to do all you can for yourself, your family and the world we live in. It will be sad to bury you will all that you are still holding back from us because you think you still have time. Value your time and show your appreciation for it by living it the best way you know how to. Remember, nothing happens for no reason, so even this reminder is a reason.

God loves you
